Connor’s Ph.D. Proposal Defense

Congratulations to Connor Phillips, a PhD student in Community and Regional Planning at The University of Texas at Austin, who successfully presented his dissertation proposal on May 29, 2025.

Connor’s proposed dissertation, titled “Co-intelligent Planning Participation: Creating and Evaluating an AI-enhanced Digital Interface,” investigates the potential of artificial intelligence to enhance participatory planning processes. His work aims to bridge the gap between digital innovation and urban governance by designing and evaluating an interactive platform that supports co-intelligent engagement between planners and the public.

During the defense, Connor presented his conceptual framework, research design, and methodological approach, followed by a round of thoughtful discussion with committee members and attendees. His research contributes to the emerging field of human-AI collaboration in urban planning and highlights the importance of inclusive, accessible civic technology.

We look forward to seeing how his work shapes the future of digital planning practices. Congratulations again, Connor!
